July 29, 235.4 lb

My myfitnesspal goal is set at 2 lb/week (the max they recommend) but I'm usually a few hundred calories below the recommended (often by gaining a couple hundred calories through exercise).  Thus, I'm on pace for 2-3 lb/week and 10-15 lb/month.

Probably a bit low from lack of water consumption.  May be closer to 235.6 lb.

July 24, I'm 28, 237.4 lb

Today is my 28th birthday.  Morning weight is 237.4 lb.

Through July (An Introduction)

The summer before freshman year of college when I was 19, I weighed 168 lb when I got my adult drivers license.  In the nine years since, through college and graduate school, I have put on significant weight until I hovered around 250 lb.  This isn't good.  I decided I need to do something about this and do it before I do irreversible damage to my body.

At the beginning of 2012, I was about 240 lb and decided to participate in a "biggest loser" style contest with a group from my church.  Over the course of three months motivated by regular weigh ins and the potential to win a small prize and the admiration of my peers, I was able to lose about 25 lb dropping down to 215 lb, mainly by monitoring food intake and exercise with myfitnesspal.

Unfortunately but predictably, once the contest was over, I no longer had the motivation to track my food (which isn't an insignificant task) and eventually drifted back to old habits of eating far too many sweet things in a sitting.  By the time I got a new MN license in July, I was back up to 230 lb.  In August, I started tracking meals again and dropped 5 lbs in a couple of weeks, but that didn't last long.  By 2013, I was back up to 240 lb and eventually settled between 245 and 250 lb.

Near the beginning of July, after performing consistently at a lower level at ultimate frisbee than in the past, I decided I really was going to lose the weight and change my habits in a way that can be sustained long-term while still figuring out a way to make and eat delicious food and imbibements.  After eating better for a week or so, I began tracking my food again as well as trying to take a 1.5 to 2 mile walk everyday.  My start weight at this point was about 245 lb.  Over the past couple weeks, I've been doing well and have lost 6 or 7 lbs and am below 240 lb for the first time in quite a while.

I created this blog as a place to document my progress in a public but essentially witnessless location and perhaps jot down a few notes or share a delicious meal.
